For this painting I used acrylic paints and worked the texture up using a pallet knife. This helped me keep a looseness to the work but also this technique lends itself so well so the ruggedness and saltiness of the rock. The flowers and coastal grass in the foreground create a softness and contract well with this rocky terrain. 

The lagoon was actually a quarry which was finally blasted through making it tidal and was used by fishermen to harbor their boats but is now a popular haunt of water activity enthusiasts and a Red Bull cliff diving contest has even been hosted here.
